Sharing our Success: Look at the Progress we have Made!
In 2012, MHF launched a 5-year Capital Campaign to raise $4,000,000 to build an animal shelter/rescue facility on 23-acres of donated land. To date, we have raised $2,800,000: 70% of our final goal!
* Acquisition of 23-acres of donated land
* Site planning and architectural drawings for livestock facilities
* Permitting & re-zoning
23 acres of land, just 2 miles west of our current shelter was donated by Lisa & Zohar Ben-Dov. Barn plans from Candy & Greg Fazakerley were used to help keep costs down. The land was rezoned to allow a commercial animal shelter and veterinary facility. Phase 1 is complete.
* Fundraising to build all livestock rescue facilities
* Groundbreaking and building of main barn & livestock enclosures
* Architectural design of Main Adoption Facility
With the help of the MHF board and many members of the community, we successfully raised the monies needed, and the building of the main barn and sheds are well underway. We will be moving into our livestock facilities in mid-2017. We now have the final Main Adoption Facility architectural drawings, a bid set is completed. Once a builder is chosen, we will break ground in the spring. This build will take 14-18 months to complete. We will move our shelter operations in the summer of 2018. We are now in phase III.
* Obtain final building permits
* Finish fencing and outbuildings/ livestock enclosures
* Build Main Adoption facility, Memorial Garden & Training Pavilion.
We are currently awaiting our final building permit which will allow us to break ground on the Training
Pavilion and 10,000sq.ft. Main Adoption Facility, Humane Education Center, Grooming Salon and Spay/Neuter Clinic. We are excited about our future!
We are pleased to announce a “matching gift” opportunity that will help us finish out our fundraising efforts. All sponsorship donations made February 15 -June 1, 2017, will be matched up to $25,000! It's official! We have broken ground on the new shelter facility! SO exciting!!!
We are thrilled to announce we have received our Fauquier County Building and Zoning permits to begin construction on Phase One of our new animal shelter facility. Phase one will consist of the equine barn and apartments, and a separate 4-bay shed to house equipment. Phase one also includes all fencing and livestock sheds. There will be a 3 to 4 week construction preparation phase to make sure all construction partners are ready to commence land disturbing and site grading. Much of this planning will be contingent upon the weather so cross fingers that the Blizzard of 2016 snow melts quickly! Please contact us for sponsorship or naming right opportunities. It's a great way to memorialize your loved ones, including pets!

We are excited and proud to announce the ground breaking of our new shelter campus headquarters at 5ooo Cunningham Farm Lane, Marshal VA! This will be phase 1 of two phases which will complete the entire headquarters.
Phase 1 encompasses the stables/barn and various livestock enclosures, as well as a four bay shed for storage of supplies, equipment, feed and hay. Phase 1 will enable MHF to serve the ever increasing needs of our equine and various livestock rescue program. Above the stables there will be two apartments to house employees on site which will facilitate 24/7 care for the animals.
Phase 1 was designed by Earth Design, is being constructed by the Princeton Companies, and project management by Promacs. It is estimated that the construction will take approximately six months, which will provide occupancy by next summer!
We would like the thank the community who have come together in support of this great project. Livestock Facility Sponsorship opportunities are still available! Please contact us if you would like to be a part of our future and help us build a better shelter.
We are excited about the upcoming opportunities for MHF and look forward to providing assistance and programs for many more people and animals!
We are very happy to announce that the major site plan, boundary line adjustment and off-site easement plat have been approved. We now need to begin the land disturbing permit application process. We WILL break ground in the very near future! The new farm shelter campus will be built in phases. Phase one is the Equine & Livestock facilities. The main barn as well as fencing and turn out sheds will be the first to be built. We are very excited! Livestock facility sponsorships are still available. We would love to have your support. Please contact Hilleary at MHF for further information on how you can be a part of our exciting future. Thank you!
We are VERY close to breaking ground with our new facility! The final site plan has been submitted to the county and the building plans for the barn have been approved. Once we get approval on the site plan, we will start construction of our livestock facilities. If all continues to go well, we will begin building in September!
