Basic Canine Behavior & Training Classes

Learning Lab with Genevieve Warner

Monday classes begin June 6th, Saturday classes begin June 11th

After you complete an orientation, choose to join the class on  Mondays at 6:30pm or Saturdays at 11am

What is the Learning Lab you say?

It is a fun and exciting way to learn the basics and principles of behavior and training.  In six weeks of classes plus an orientation, you will learn skills and techniques that you can apply to any species, including children!  It is a great activity for the whole family.  The cost is $180 to bring your own dog through the course and free to use a shelter dog!

This year we are giving you more opportunities to participate by offering a rolling enrollment!  What does that mean?

Well, it means that you can jump right in!  Just attend any orientation and the next class will begin your 6 week class section.  Orientations will be held every other week on Monday nights at 7:30pm and Saturday afternoons at 1:30pm.

Just follow these easy steps to get signed up!

1.  Follow this link to sign up for any orientation on VolunteerSpot

2.  When you sign up please add a comment that includes all the family members and the ages of children attending. As well as whether you plan on bringing your own dog or a shelter dog through the course.

3.  Show up for your orientation at the shelter (4094 Whiting Road Marshall VA 20115)  Please do not bring dogs to orientation.

4.  Keep on coming back!  Plan on joining us Monday nights at 6:30pm or Saturdays at 12:30pm for 6 weeks straight to get all the fun and facts from Gen Warner, our certified professional pet trainer!

Please call the shelter at 540-364-3272 or e-mail Genevieve with any questions at

This 6 week (7 week including orientation) course gives an overview and structure for learning how to train and basic canine behavior.  A fun, informative way to teach humans the principles of training.  The information you will obtain during this class can be applied to any species including children!  Classes will be held throughout the year until late fall.  A great activity for the whole family.  The first class is no dogs-just people training.

If you would like a personal in-home training session for your pet, please contact Genevieve Warner.
