Behavior Enrichment Training
This program exposes the shelter dogs to new & exciting places outside of the shelter. Hiking in the woods, a trip to town, or going to the park next door is great socialization. Our volunteers play an important role in helping our animals to learn to trust humans again. Certified Dog Trainer Genevieve Warner works with both the staff and volunteers to ensure that the dogs get more daily behavior attention. Both the staff and volunteers help with the socialization of dogs to adults, kids, cats, and other dogs. Dogs are worked with using operant conditioning which is positive reinforcement training. This in turn increases their adoptability and will allow MHF to help more animals.
Genevieve offers six-week training classes that allows volunteers to sponsor a shelter dog by taking them through the class. The class is also offered to those that wish to take their own dog through the class. Learn More>>
HOW YOU CAN HELP: The shelter dogs love to have something to entertain themselves while they are in their cages or enclosures. Please donate large KONG toys or large rawhides.
Become a Volunteer! Working with a shelter animal and watching them grow and learn is one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have. Learn More>>
